Welcome to Bahrain Universities Model United Nations
It is a great honor to have chaired GA in the Bahrain Universities Model United Nations Conference 2007. Previously, I have both chaired assembly and represented countries. My first overseas experience was in the WorldMUN, Beijing 2006 I represented India in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations "FAO". It was most authentic MUN experience possible, thanks to its 1400 delegates coming from 37 different countries. We interacted through lively and informed debate to discuss the issues facing the world today. It was experience that reaches across cultures and borders to inspire both cooperation and friendship.
Later on 2006 I took pride and pleasure to represent Bahrain in The United Nations Global Youth Leadership Summit (GYLS) . Organized by the United Nations New York Office on Sport for Development and Peace on behalf of the UN system. It was a landmark event, seeking to strengthen the worldwide movement to engage young people in decisions about the future of their communities, regions, and our emerging global society. I engaged in discussions with young leaders from the 192 United Nations Member States, met in New York on 29 - 31 October 2006 to share ideas and plans on ways to increase progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and build peace, with sport and culture as vehicles for reaching out to youth worldwide.
In March 2007 I chaired the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia "ESCWA" At the National Model United Nations in New York. NMUN is considered as the world's largest university-level simulation of the United Nations, annually educates more than 4,000 students from five continents about the UN and the issues facing our world. In this conference I develop a greater understanding for global affairs and the inner workings of international diplomacy it was truly a unique Model UN experience that provided every delegate with a diverse pool of backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.
This year Bahrain University Model United Nations, is going to be experience that we will learn how to exploit and utilize our skills of public speaking, critical thinking and negotiation in order to seek solutions to the various problems in the world. In our model UN, we will learn to adapt to the views of others, the first step towards international cooperation and tolerance. Hereby I wish to convey my sincere appreciation to Miss Doris Martine the Founder & advisor of the BUMUN for all her tremendous efforts in initiating this project. In addition, I would like to thank the General Organization of Youth and Sport (GOYS) for their support in sponsoring the event.
